I am using Crystal 8.0 with ODBC

I would like to create a view_table of one of the tables we use frequently in reports because there are some situations where I have been not able to get away from using subreports, and using the same table in both your main report and subreport drastically slows down performance. I am still fairly new at crystal and am not sure how to go about creating a view table, and what the implications of doing this might be, if any.

Help!

Hi,
What do you mean by a view_table?

What database, version,connection method?

i'm using Cache 5.0, Crystal 8.0, ODBC.

What I mean by view table is I would like to create a duplicate table of say staff_tx_history. I want this view_table to always reflect exactly what is in the staff_tx_history at any time. I use this table a lot in my reports and in reports that utilize this table in both the main report and the subreport, and this really slows it down. so the ultimate goal is to create a copy so I can avoid performance problems. I know it is generally a good idea to avoid subreports, but there are cases where I can't get away from using them.

help!

Hi,
Cannot be done, easily..If your database allows triggers you could insure that all changes to the main version are reflected in the 'clone' - by using 'After...' triggers to write the changes to the clone.

Just creating a standard View would not help, since the view is just another way to access the table itself..

Far better would be so find out why referencing the table twice is causing a slowdown..

From what I have read perusing other threads in these Crystal forums, this is a common crystal problem (slow performance when using the same table in both the main report and a subreport)...being that others have encountered it I was hoping someone had found some sort of loop hole.

Still hoping for suggestions...

More info is needed. I disagree that using the same table in both the main and subreports is an inherent problem, and since you have provided no sample data or desired output, I am not sure subreports are even necessary.
