Creating / using masks...

Dear all,

I know this probably sounds mad to most of you, but I tend to teach myself packages; so I know lots about Photoshop but I can't for the life of me work out how to use masks correctly.

So, the question is: does anyone know of any good tutorials on creating / using / working with masks?
