Hi-

How can I create user accounts in 2000 advanced server. I need to do this so users and myself can enter a password to edit in front page, any web content resident on the server. Also if someone wants to remotely log into the server they need a windows password to do so for remote IIS administration.

Thank you.

Jim

Try going into Administrative tools (in the control panel for Win2k Pro, or program group in Server). There you'll find the Computer Manager console. Expand 'local users and groups,' then open the 'users' folder. With the users folder highlighted, you can either add a new user thru the 'Action' pull down menu, or just right click on an empty space in the user area and hit new user.

Don't forget to set the priveledges; Hope this helps!

for 2K server or advanced servers, you can do it in three ways:

1. go physically to the server, log on locally as administrator or a member or account operators. click on START-PROGRAMS-ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS. if the server is a DC, click on ACTIVE DIRECTORY USERS AND COMPUTERS (ADUC), otherwise, click on COMPUTER MANAGEMENT (CM). from ADUC,select the USERS folder, right click on it and select NEW USER. if from CM, explode SYSTEM TOOLS and select LOCAL USERS AND GROUPS. right click on the USERS folder and select NEW USER.

2. if the server involved has Terminal Services for Remote Administration and you have Terminal Services Client installed in your station, try to connect to target server and do the rest of the procedure from number 1.

3. if the objective is to create a user on the domain and you have (you must) installed the ADMINPAK.MSI on your 2K Pro station, click on START-PROGRAMS-ADMINISTRATIVE TOOOLS-ACTIVE DIRECTORY USERS AND GROUPS and add the user. if you still have not installed ADMINPAK.MSI and you have a domain to administer, you can get it from the i386 folder of your Win2K installation cd.

hope this helps... :)
