I'm hoping to find some help on creating threaded text boxes...I can't seem to select the text boxes properly to get the menu item (Type>Threaded Tex) to become highlighted.

I'm used to PageMaker and Quark from years ago. All I have now at work is Illustrator to do everything from logos to page layout; a bit frustrating...

If you click on the "out box on the first text frame with the selection tool, the cursro will turn into a "loaded cursor" and you can draw another linked text box somewhere else on the page. A big line will indicate the link.

I can't figure out why I cannot see the outbox and inbox on the text boxes..??

Yeah - that's wierd. Make sure that you have "show Bounding box" active on the view menu. If you do, the View menu will list "hide bounding box"

Also, make sure that you put somehting into the first text frame. Just type 1 letter or something.
