creating table of contents from multiple files

Is there a way to create a table of contents from multiple files WITHOUT having to create a master document?

files are:
Chapter 01 (using outline style, chpt-page number [1-1,1-2])
Chapter 02
Chapter 03, etc.

all combined into:
Table of Contents
Chapter 01: title
1.1 title...........1-1
1.1.1 title.....1-3 etc.

In MS Word, one can use the Reference Document code—is there a similar function (or script) in WordPerfect?
