I am currently running a web hosting service for personal web sites etc. (low traffic) and am having to manually create (named) virtual host subdomains in the httpd.conf and i was wondering if there was some way that i could get apache to use a database to get the properties of a subdomain i.e. the errorlog path and other commands.

I need to be able to set parameters for each subdomain individually because different subdomains require different parameters. Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

I'm not sure that everything you want to do can be done. You can avoid having to create a new virtual host for each new account by using mass vhosting. Check out this FAQ: There are scripts that allow you to offer webpages to your visitors but as far as being able to give each its own pars, I don't know. You might be able to find something here:

I have already looked into mass vhosting but it doesn't really give me what i need. I'll have a look at those sites. Any other ideas, anyone?

Hi mate,

Why not create a script that will append the subdomain details to the end of the httpd.conf?

The only problem that I can see with this is that you would have to then restart Apache to get the changes to take effect. You could schedule a reboot every few hours or so if the httpd.conf has changed.

Hope this helps
