Creating Search engine on website 1

Hello,

I presently have a search engine on my website that is not functional because of problems I am having with a CGI script that I have not been able to debug. Been thinking about removing this and creating new. Is there a way to create a search engine without having to utilize a CGI script (I.E via HTML or Javascript?) I am new to the HTML world. Any help or links that would educate me on how to create a search engine would be very helpful.
