I have created an instalation program, which is very nice for initial instalation, but my superiors would like it to be able to do upgrades, like little upgrade packets can be used with a script inside, I basically want a general design and feel of how I would go about something like so, especially when it comes to having commands in a script.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

If you're using the Package and Deplyment Wizard, have you considered just including the files that you need for the upgrade? Of course you would have to keep track of what changed and only distribute the changed files.

If you're using InstallShield (you have my sympathy) but you could do the same thing.
Steve Meier
sdmeier@jcn1.com

no, not using Microsoft's instalation, its not an instalation for the instalation program, its an instalation for a web application that
1) copys the the selfectracting exe over then uncompressing it into the root of the webserver, deleting the exe
2) copying over all the activeX and dll to the system dir and registering them
3) setting web application's settings, and the image file to show up in index.htm
4) setting up the ODBC Database System names

I have decided to use *.ini files to be shiped with the instalation package(assuming they may either need to do a first time instalation, or an upgrade, or even both) as you can see from a recent post I have made concerning the ...PrivateProfile... API commands.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)
