Is there a way to set an attribute on an illustrator object so that it will henceforth be treated as a point for scaling purposes? (In the sense that when one scales a bunch of points, only the relative positions of the points get changed by t he scaling, without making the points fat.)
This is what I have in mind: I have a technical drawing consisting of a network that uses different objects for vertices, and for labels near vertices. I need to create several of these graphs, and for each of these I need to create both a "large" version (5x5 cm) and a "small" version (2.5x2.5 cm). However, selecting it all and scaling it down by 50% has the problem that the symbols become too tiny to be read, and the lines become too thin. I know I can get around the lines problem by deselecting "scale strokes and effects." However, there seems to be no way to to avoid other elements being made too tiny. What I want is for the _positions_ of the varios elements to be scaled without scaling the symbols themselves.
Right now it seems that all I can do is scale everything by 50% and then do a selective "transform each" by 200% to the things that became too tiny, but that leaves me with some manual readjustment to do afterwards and is impractical. Since I have to do this several times, I am hoping that there is a better way.
Any hints on how to accomplish this practically will be very appreciated.
