Hello

Can anyone explain the correct way of setting up Adobe Acrobat to enable me to create PDF files from Quark express.

I used to be able to select the postscript driver from the chooser (did not specify a printer) and then from page setup in Quark select 'Distiller' then print - this would create a postscript file on my desktop which i would then use Distiller to create a .pdf file.

The proble that I now have is whenever I select the postscript driver in the chooser, it is 'associated' with a networked Laserjet, and I can not get the postscript files onto my desktop anymore.

I feel that there is something essential that I do not understand about this whole process, if anyone can give me any pointers I would be very grateful,

Thanks

EB

I personaly use directly "Print" dialog box, there I choose distiller as a printer, I set up the properties for output file and prind directly pdf file. ...........................Mtj

To print to a file, you have to go to the Print... dialog box, press the 'Printer...' button, and change the destination to file. It usually defaults to printer, so you need to change this manually.

Use the Desktop Printer Utility to create a Printer Driver that will only print to file. You must have a PostScript printer installed within your OS. Launch the Desktop Printer Utility, and then use your PostScript printer to create a Print Driver that is setup as a PostScript Translator. Be sure to save this driver on your hard drive once it is created. Simply select this driver before you attempt to print to PostScript from Quark (any layout).

Be sure that you have a newer printer driver in your OS. If not, then go to the Adobe web site and download a driver that is compatible with your OS. The newer drivers are PostScript level 3 compliant. You want to create your PDF with a PostScript level 3 - many of the newer features of graphic applications require PS 3 (better smooth shading, transparent objects, mmaster fonts).

Also, use the Desktop Printer Utility to create a printer driver for each type of output device you print to. Keep the drivers in a folder. When you wish to print to an output device, selet the print driver and type command/L. This will active the print driver.

Need more help, let me know.
