Creating Network STATUS Drawing

I have an elegant drawing of my network but would like to find a way to give the shapes behaviours that would allow them to change their color based on the results of a PING command to the remote site.... if the PING fails the shape would change colors (green/red)

If anyone has some ideas I will be very grateful. I think this is a VERY adequate substitute for some of the more expensive software solutions

If you can obtain a value for the ping, you can place the value in a custom property of a shape and use the custom property to control the shape.
