We are running AIX5.1 P670 and have a Tivoli Storage Mgmt. Has anyone setup the mksysb backup to 3590 instead of 8MM tapes if you are how did you set it up. Also have you had an opportunity to restore from the 3590 tape..

Thanks any help will be appreciated ....

I don't know if you can boot fibre tape.

But anyway you can do something like that:
- use a NIM sever
connect the NIM server to a 3590
create mksysb of all the partitions in a file
transfert each mksysb to the NIM server
This way you can save all the mksysbs on a 3590.

- you save only the image of the NIM server on a 8MM.

Are you sure the 3590 is a valid / supported boot device ?
Is it fibre or scsi attach ?
If it is fibre, is it direct connect or via a switch ?
Have you managed to configure the drive in the boot list ?

The question should be: "Can you boot from a scsi / direct fibre / switched fiber attached 3590 ?"

Let us know and we'll have a go.....
