I want to create an MDE file of my Access application to reduce the size and keep the application fast, plus secure the app against modifications to the VBA code.

The application is in a separate MDB from the data. I get a message "Access cannot create MDE". I tried on another small MDB that had both the App and data, and it created the MDE fine.

(1) Is there a way to get a more descriptive message from access, ie. Trace or Log??

(2) Are there limitations on being able to create MDE's? Are they documented?

When using Access97, I had the regular vs. Developer edition and was told that was a Developer feature.

I have the developer addition.

When I went back to work on the application and did another compile a VBA error showed up. I fixed the error and tried to create the MDE again and this time it created the MDE. I would have thought that Microsoft knew what the error was and could have given me a little hint.

There is an alarming trend in the MDE. The MDE started out at 1800K, which was a reduction from 2300K. I went in the App and traversed various Forms, menus, etc.. and exited the App -- maybe 30 seconds. The size grew by a 100K, so I went back in and traversed more Forms and when I exited it had grown by another 100K. Unless this trend stops, I will be hestitant to use an MDE.

Any thoughts on this???
