Hi forum,
It is my first post in this forum and I am quite a newbie in Filemaker pro.
I am willing to make a database (people) where I’ll be able to link different records from the same kind of layout.
Ex: Philippe has 2 children Maureen and Kevin. I would like a table in Philippe’s record where I can add member of his family by pointing to other records (Maureen and Kevin) and having the name and age of the member in the table.
Is such a thing possible?
Could someone please give me an explanation or a link to a tutorial, manual or a template doing this thing?
Thanks for any help
Steven

It is possible and you have a basic manual/tutorial nearly next to you.

Look in the help file for relationship and lookup.

Also the samplefiles on your FileMaker CD are a great help to start with.

Basically you have to make sure you can identify Philippe in an unique way (ID).
Make sure this ID can be used in the Maureen and Kevin record (and every other record that have something to do/linked with Philippe.
Make a relationship between the tables where the Philippe ID = Philippe ID.
Make a portal (see manual) based upon this relatioinship on a layout with fields and there you have it.

Same trick goes for the pictures. Make sure the pictures has an ID for the person. Reference this ID into the records and you will have the picture of the ID person in the containerfield of the right record.
