Me again! I have created a report to make file labels. The labels include a family last name, file number and then the various children's names in the family. The report I created makes a label for each child in the family. How can I get this to print one label including all the children's name on the same label?

Thanks, Sherry

To do what you want to do you must modify the report so that you are using the Sorting and Grouping function, sort on the Family ID field, and create a Group Header on the Family ID. This allows for a new label for each family and then the children would print under the Detail Section all on the same label.

Hopefully, this gives you a start on solving your problem. If you need more detailed help please get back with me. Bob Scriver

Thanks very much Bob. I will try that and let you know.

Sherry: Make sure that you place the Family Last Name and File number in the Group Header. Then keep the children's names in the Detail Section. Bob Scriver

Ok, I put the fields in a group header. Now I have the last name and file number printing only once. The field for the children's first names is in the detail section. I managed to get that far, but here's the problem now. The last name and file number print on one label, then the first child's name prints on the next label, the second child's name on the next to that etc. Then the next family begins. How do I get all the information for one family on one label? There can be one child or several depending on the family. I just know I am missing something simple here. Help!!

Thanks, Sherry

One more thing. I would like the family last names to print in all caps. How can I do this? Thanks again.

Sherry

All caps:

UCase([LastName])

This will convert the family last name to caps.

As for the other problem I can't work on this right now but we need to modify this a little and create a subform and subreport control so that all of the family first names print in the detail section. I will set something up and if you wish you can try working on that. Set the CanGrow property to Yes. This will allow for the subreport control to expand depending upon the number of family members.

We will have to do something also if the number of family members exceeds the size of the label. All things to think about. Bob Scriver

Ok - thanks again Bob. I'll wait to see what you come up with. Is there a way to produce a query that will bring the children's names together, separated by commas. I'm thinking perhaps if I can get that to work then I can just export to a document in word. What are your thoughts? I don't know which is the easier route.
