I'm new to Indesign.

1. If I know photoshop and Illustrator and have some experience with Quark, how hard is mastering Indesign going to be?

2. For the graphics you use in Indesign, do you prefer to create them in photoshop and then bring them over to Indesign? For example, the overall background of a layout?

Thanks for your help, looks like a great place to learn a lot.

If you know Illustrator and Quark, Indesign should be a breeze. The page layout concepts are the same as Quarks and the interface is very similar to Illustrator. Yeah, there are quite a few things you have to figure out but, if you launch Help and use its search funtion, it's easy to find answers.

Like Quark, ID is not a graphics creation app. That's why things like Illustrator and Photoshop exist. If a backround is a simple color or something, Is is fine but for anything complicated you need the other stuff.
