I install Tru64 v5.1A on ES40 server.
But I have not any tape devices. How I can create it?

[root@host06 /dev]# mt status
/dev/ntape/tape0_d1: No such file or directory
[root@host06 /dev]# ls -la /dev/tape/
total 16

[root@host06 /dev]#

Have a look at "man MAKEDEV"

... and "man dsfmgr" for non-legacy devices

Are you able to reboot the machine?

dsfmgr runs automatically during system startup. Hardware management procedures poll the system for all devices, finding any devices added since the system was last booted.

No, I can't reboot machine.
But I rebooted it before I installs our software on it.

Is this a new tape drive that you have connected or one that came presinstalled?

It's preinstalled.
Before I install all our software, I do not saw that there are no files in /dev/tape and /dev/ntape.

Hmmm. What is the output of "scu show edt"

[root@host06 /odb3]# scu show edt

Hmm, there is no tape device showing in that list. There are 3 hard drives and a CDROM.

Can you recall if you saw the tape device when the system was at the system prompt(>>>) or when you did a show dev at the system prompt?

Is the tape drive connected?

OK. I can boot to system prompt(>>>). But it must be for very little time.
And what I must to do?

Type "show dev".

Is there a tape device listed? Can you see the three disks and the cdrom drive too.

Apologies if this is a bit late, but not been online for a while.

I did it.

The show dev lists a cdrom, a floppy disk drive, 4 ethernet cards and 2 disks.

Is this correct?

I think you may already have guessed that the tape drive cannot be connected to the system.

If you do get an opportunity, check to see if the tape drive is cabled and see what, if anything, it is connected to.

Tape drive is connected to QLOGIC SCSI controller.

Afraid there is still no tape drive listed. 3 hard disks, 1 cdrom, 1 floppy, 4 ethernet cards.

Perhaps there is a conflict between the SCSI id's. What is the scsi id of the tape drive.
