Creating Datetime field 1

I am trying to create a datetime field in mysql that will simply record the time a record is created, so I do not want it to accept null, and when the record is created the default value will be the datetime, but I can figure out how to do the default value... I tried getdate() but that did not work.

Have you considered a timestamp() field in MySQL?
