When I scan my grayscale images in 16-bit mode I can't create contrast adjustment Curves on Adjustment Layers ( Layer>New>Adjustment Layer). I can only create Curves on the image itself, (Image>Adjust>Curves). This creates permanent changes to the image itself that I don't want. I can create the curve on an Adjustment Layer in 8-bit mode, but I want to stay in 16-bit mode if possible when creating a contrast curve. I use Photoshop version 7.0. Any Ideas?

Thanks

Unfortunately, you'll probably have to upgrade to CS. As far as I know, 16-bit support in v7 is extremely limited.
