Creating complex geometrical patterns

Hi everyone,
I'm working on a project that requires a complex geometrical pattern in the back ground. An example is shown below. I've tried tracing it numerous times, in CS2 with smart guides, but it never quite lines up, and it is getting ver frustrating!! Anyone have any tips, or could direct me to a tutorial or something?
