I have connected all the workstations to the domain and created users on the active directory and users can login.

The next thing I would like to do is create personal drives for everyusers on the domain "windows 2000 server" so that when login from anyway workstation they can access their files instead of storing it on the workstation itself.

Can you please tell me how to do this?
It will also be much appreciated if you tell me what is this process called so I can buy some books and read more about it. I would like to learn! :)

Thank you.

You should have a read of markdmac's FAQ on login scripts;

MarkDMac does have some well written scripts and are always a good resource. Another way is to setup a home folder under the user's profile on the profile tab. This is something that you could script when you make your user accounts. You can just pick a drive letter and set a UNC path.

I appreciate the praise guys. w33mhz, I will respectfully disagree with the advice you have given. The Home Folder property in AD is a legacy setting for integration with NT4 networks. A search in the server forums will reveal it is often an unreliable setting. The one advantage of using this is that when you enter information in that field, Active Directory User's & Computers will make the folder for you and set the permissions. The problem with scripting this is that the folder creation does not take place, only the pointers to the data are established (even if the directory does not exist).

My advice on this subject is to use vbscript to create the user folders. You can further enhance the script by calling XCACLS to set the NTFS permissions and you can also create shares to the folders via script which can then be referenced in the login script as I demo in my FAQ.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Well I guess My Bad I was assuming that separatly creating the folder was implied.
