Firstly, thanks in advance for any assistance rendered.

What I'm trying to do is: -

Create a report with various text boxes. Each individual text box has details on a user. Each user has an email address.

What I'd like to do is allow anyone running the report to click on the text box. Crystal then looks at the email address field and opens the email editor with the specific email address. I can't use the email link in hyperlink as this only allows me to input one single address and the text box displays information on any of the 47 specific users.

I'm using Crystal 8.

Could anyone give me some pointers as to what formula I'd be able to use to get this to work.

Cheers

Mike

You're almost there.
Select email in hyperlink as you did, but then click on the formula icon in the same group to select the database field that has the address in it. That makes the email address dynamic (from the database) rather than static (hard coded).

I have tried repeatedly to create an email link on a field called, appropriately enought, "APPS.EMAIL" -- but every time I format this field as a hyperlink, it reverts back to "A file on the Internet" instead of an email address.

When I run the report, I see the email addresses displayed properly, but when I put the cursor on any email address and click, I get a message telling me the specific file can't be found. This is frustrating because the damned email address is right there on the screen -- so OF COURSE it can be found.

When I right click on the field and go to FORMAT FIELD, the box labeled "A file on the Internet" is checked instead of the box labeled "EMAIL." The formula is correct, so why does it keep changing?

I am experiencing the same thing as Dond12. I cannot get the email to launch from teh CR view window despite having formatted it several times to be a hyperlink and an email address, it keeps changing back. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

I found this to work in CR 8.5 (don't know about 8.0):

Rather than clicking on Format/Hyperlink/An E-mail Address,

Under Format/Hyperlink, I clicked on "Current Field Value" and CHECKED "This field contains e-mail addresses"

Works fine .... now if I could figure out how to address 1 e-mail to all addresses in the report ......

Hope this helps...

Datadog,

My choices from the hyperlink tab are:

No Hyperlink
A web site on the internet
An Email Address
A File

Two more choices are greyed out:
Current Field Value
Another Crystal Report File

I am choosing "An email address", then going to the X-2 Button to the right of emaikl address to enter the formula to get the email address (which is actiually stored in the database), but this isn't working. I am not getting an error, it just doesn't work when I click on it from the CR viewer.

Any ideas? Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
