I've got an issue creating a VPN between 2 BCM50's.

The adsl details have been entered on both units and I can see both BCM's and routers across the internet.

Site A IP Details:
Router = 192.168.1.1
BCM = 192.168.1.2

Site B IP Details:
Router = 192.168.2.1
BCM = 192.168.2.1

From site A, I can ping the published IP of the adsl connection for site B, but I can't ping the router or BCM. If I do a trace route then I get 1 hop, which is the router at site A.

From site B, I can ping the published IP of the adsl connection, for site A but I can't ping the router or BCM. If I do a trace route then I get 1 hop, which is the router at site A.

I don't think the VPN Tunnel is setup and working, so how can I check if the tunnel is working?

Also can anybody think of pointers to get this working?

Cheers

192.168.x.x is a private address range. You will not be able to ping this across the internet.

Just getting into the BCM, but I noticed the IP address & BCM address of your Router on Site B is same, yet different on site A, would that cause the problem?

Even tho 192.168.x.x are private addresses, should I not be able to ping then across my VPN Tunnel?

IP Details for site B should be:
Router = 192.168.2.1
BCM = 192.168.2.2

Sorry fat fingers!

Yes, you should be able to ping a private IP through a VPN tunnel.

Adversity is Opportunity

So I dont think my vpn is connecting both sites, is there anyway of checking this?

Does anybody know of any software I could use to test/prove the vpn tunnel?

Cheers

It looks like the VPN tunnel is connected and workng ok. However I still cannot ping the BCM or router in site A from site B and vice-versa.

I I do a trace route, it hits the router then stops.

Do I need to configure static routes? If I do can somebody tell me how this is done and what format I need to enter them in.

I've tried to add a static route but all I get is an Error message:

Error! Cannot add an invalid static route entry.

The details I'm entering on site A's router are:

Destination IP Address = 192.168.2.1
IP Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP Address = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (x is the ip address of the adsl WAN link)

Is this correct?

Also the connection type has been set to Branch Office.

So my static route would look like:

Destination IP Address = 192.168.2.1
IP Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.252
Gateway IP Address = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (x is the ip address of the adsl WAN link)
