I have a table with rougly 12,500 records without a unique field. Is there a way I can create a new field and populate it with a starting value of 1 and so on for each record up to 12,500? (maybe using a sql statement).

thanks,
Michael

All you have to do is open the table in desing mode and add a field called Id or whatever and then set it to autonumber. when you save the table, it will automatically add a number to each one......simple as pie. There is no I in team.
