creating a tar file to include all sub folders / directories

AFAIK tar should, by default, include all directories and sub-directories. This from the AIX man page:
"If the File parameter refers to a directory,
then that directory and recursively all files and directories within it are referenced as well."
Seem to recall something about it having problems with empty directories however, though I might have dreamt that! HTH anyways.
