creating a smaller PDF 1

I have created a PDF from a 75 page PageMaker document and it's 21.5M, a little large for my purpose which is to publish online. It is graphics heavy as it mainly consists of 65 pages of illustrations. There are 260 illustrations. Each are about 500k. I saved them as 100dpi tif's. I am wondering if there is any other way I can reduce the size of the PDF other than removing the illustrations. Is there a way to compress the PDF?

Re-distill the PM file using "smallest size" or "screen" joboption in Distiller.

Also:
1. Make sure the images are downsampled to 96 or even 72dpi.
2. Do not embed any fonts.
3. No thumbnails or indexing.
4. Open the PDF in Acrobat and use File -> Reduce filesize. Save as Acrobat4 or later.

My guess is you can get the filesize down to under 1Mb.

Another alternative is to split the PDF into smaller chunks. For example, you may have a link to one PDF consisting of the first 25 pages, another to the second 25 pages and a third to the last 25 pages.
