Hi,

please does anyone know how to convert some text not into outlines, that can be stroked and filled, but rather just into the fill element. i.e the average or midpoints of the outlines. This is to export to a 3d package, and i need the text as a single spline. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks

...i use C4D R11, and in my experience you have to convert to outlines (type > create outlines), save to .ai version 8 and import...

...the result is always separate letters, even if you convert the outlines into a compound path in illustrator (object > compound path > make)...

...the only way to make a single spline object in C4D is to import as normal and then select the children objects, then perform a connect function...

...this is then a single spline object...

...not sure what 3d program you are using, but i imagine that this is much the same action and result...

...so rather than looking at illustrator you may have to apply a function in the 3d program to physically connect the letters into a single spline group or object that can then be extruded as one...

...looking at 3DS Max importing, the connect function can be applied during the import dialog process...

...but again, not sure what 3D program you are using, i do believe you need to explore the 3D program functions to achieve what you need, as opposed to illustrator itself...
