Is there some function that will create a shortcut icon on the desktop, given the target file name? I imagine this would be some kind of API trick?

I think there is an option Acc 2000 that will do it for you.
Also, I think there is way it can be done easily in Win Explorer.

I have just looked now. It is on the Edit menu in Acc 2000. Also, if you right click your db in explorer, there is an option to create short cut. The only think with this is, you will have to add the wrkgrp param yourself, and the actual location of the workgroup file.

Hmm... maybe I didn't make myself clear enough. What I want to do is have some code in a VBA module that copies a file from the network (which I know how to do), and then creates a shortcut to that file on the user's desktop. I should also mention that I'm using Access 97. :)

Ah, never mind. I finally got onto the webpage that Bill gave me, and it's just what I'm looking for. Thanks, Bill!!! :)
