setup: Avaya S8700 system

I am fairly new to this, so please excuse me if I don't use proper terminology.
Basically what I am trying to do is link a new telephone number we have through our telco to an already existing ext. that is setup.
Am I correct in assuming it's not a DID because the last four digits of the new number are not in our extension range, so I would set it up as a CO?
I have added a new trunk-group and everything appears to be correct, but when you dial the new number, it goes to the parts counter which I believe they are in a loop right now. For incoming destination I do have the correct extension where it should go, but it does not.
Any help is greatly appreciated, and I can post screen shots if needed.

Basically, the extension and the number of digits the carrier are passing need to be the same. That would ring the phone. You could always x-port the new extension (digits passing) then bridge the new number on the existing phone. This would require an additional button(s)on the existing phone.

There are other ways such as incoming call treatment on the trunk itself. Or perhaps using the passing digits as a VDN then routing it to the extension via a vector.

make sense?

thanks,

Thank you, yes that does make sense.
If I were to go with the VDN method, how would I make the number passthrough to the proper extension?
Also, would I still have to create the trunk group and if so what type would it be?

Can anybody point me in the right direction on a DID. I have now created a new extension 4255 which is the last 4 of the new 10 digit telephone number. However, when I add the port that the phone is on, it doesn't go to the correct extension. it seems to be ringing the same as the normal business number to the parts counter.
Is it possible to have an existing extension still ring an employee, then create this new did and have it ring to the same employee? basically giving her 2 extensions, but 1 that is accessible from outside customers dialing in directly to the 10 digit phone number?

You need to know what numbers the LEC is sending. They could be sending 3 or more digits down your pipe not just the last 4. You may have to look at your incoming call handling to see if you add or delete digits.
