I am trying to create a mx record but the others button under resource record isn't there instead I get a cname ptr and text no others option. Does anyone know how to get to the others option or how to create a mx record when the others box is not available.

Is this a question regarding NetWare 5.x DNS/DHCP functionality? Your question is very vague.

What OS are you using? The MX record... will it be public or Private? What kind of Mail System?

Please advise.

Sorry, it's netware 5.1. Mail system doesn't matter but it's exchange 2000. I need to set one for both internal and external. We currently have an mx record already. I have added a second mail exchanger server and I would like to add it to the external and internal dns. I just don't see the option for an MX record which I used to see before. I know some changes were made by a consultant but not sure if he did something that would have removed that feature. Everywere I look says there should be an other's button but under resource record where I would be able to add the mx record but I don't get that radio button.

P.S the only version number I got NW5_1.etf copyright 1997-2000 unless I am looking in the wrong place.

The version I am using is NW5_etf05.01 - which is different than yours... And I CAN see all of the different Record types.

Have you applied any NetWare v5.1 Support Packs? If not, you should. At the very least you should have NW51SP3 installed. NW51SP4 is available, also. There were major updates to the DNSDHCP.NLM with these Support Packs.

Good Luck!

Ok will try that but even if this is an older version of netware's implementation of dns I would think there had to be a way to add an mx record. It is an essential part of dns right?????

Absolutely! But it sounds like you are missing some very important items. Either DNSDHCP has become corrupted, or the application itself has not been installed correctly or installed partially.

Either way, I would definitely update your Servers to NW51SP3.

Also, are you loggind on as ADMIN, or as a user that is ADMIN-equivalent?

Good Luck!

admin equivalent and as admin we are running sp3 so I don't know what it could be.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the DNSDHCP Management Console? If you haven't already, you probably should try.

Good Luck!

That's the next thing I am going to do when I get in tomorrow. Just realised the console we are using now isn't running from the same machine that I used before. When I was in it before a few months back I had those options. Unfortunately, that machine with the console that had it has been redone. Will let you know.

I tried downloading the dns/dhcp management console and got the same thing. There was another machine that I found that already had it and it had the options I needed. I am not sure what download it came from but it worked thanks.
