Creating a macro or recording keystrokes? 1

I'm trying to find a way to repeat a series of actions. I have a reference photo opened in GIMP. The tasks I wish to automate are:

Open the test image (Ctrl-1)
Copy and then close that window
Paste onto the reference photo
Set transparency of the pasted layer to 50%

Is there any way to do this?

Lot at AutoHotkeys, I used it to create a little program to launch an app with certain varible, but can do macros as well.
I have no porgramming experiaence, but found it resonably easy to use.

Thanks, it took a while to figure out how to use it, but it does the job quite nicely.
