I have a cisco 2611 running IOS 12.0 and I would like to know how to create a live network by connecting it to my cox cable modem. I already setup the cox domain name on my router but I still cannot ping cox's DNS server. Deos anybody out there have a solution to my problem?

Thanks

waneey1,

Are you getting static IP or DHCP?

I do not remember which IOS allowed DHCP IP assignment to what would be your "WAN" Ethernet port.

Are you doing PPPoE ?

You might want to see if you can get at least a 12.3x IOS with Firewall support to lock down that connection.

Post your config file (take out your passwords and identifiable IPs) with a little more info and we can look for what is not right.

Also what speed are you getting from Cox now - 2611 is limited to just Ethernet (10mgs) - I know some of the cable Cos in Florida have bumped the speeds to 15mgs and faster.

Verizon FIOS installer told me that they are going to bump basic servce for them to 15 and all others will double or triple for same price they are paying now! That is why they use the D-Link router - the "WAN" port is 100mgs.

Just some thoughts!
