I work in artwork inventory managent. I track how many pieces of artwork we have, where they are, and where they were (and what dates they were there).
I need to be able to pull up a form and change the location of a piece of artwork on the form.
I want this action to produce what I call a 'history table'.
I will then be able to query this table for historical information about pieces and thier locations or about locations and their pieces.

We use software similar to this for our CAD drawings. We have the added advantage of being able to view the drawings. Ours is custom but in general this is called EDMS (electronic document management system). Many of the EDMS systems allow you to have multiple document types. The "cadillac" of EDMS right now is Cimmetry Systems’ AutoVue Professional but there are many more available.
