Creating a halo effect around house keys 1

I have an image of a person holding up some house keys in their hand.

I would like the house keys to stand out just a little so i thought it might be nice to add a halo effect around those keys.

Any ideas how this can be done? I tried doing it by hand (using the paint brush tool) but it doesn't look good at all.

use the mask tool, cut around the keys duplicate them onto another layer on top of the original keys, then add a drop shadow/glow - use the glow to the duplicate.

Sometimes, when my code just won't behave, I take it outside and make it listen to britney spears music, and when it comes back it's really well behaved. I wonder if it's suffering from post tramatic stress syndrome now..
