I have an autoCAD image that I imported into illustrator and I need to color it in. The drawing is pretty much a bunch of lines and arcs. I can't group anything together and have it fill in. It kind of looks like a big knotwork object and all the roping needs to be colored. Am I going to have to redraw the hole thing in Illustrator?

CAD artwork only sends wireframe info to AI and little else. You are gonna need to manually repair the art or play with your dxf options in CAD to try and get a cleaner export. To start filling shapes, drag over one corner with your open selector (white arrow) and hit ctrl+shift+alt+j to average and join the points. I'd buy a Mac if I could afford one.
