I am still a novice, how do I create a file on my local or client machine,

have tried fopen("c:\data.csv",'w') + a few more.

Richard

assuming that your client is not the same as the server then you will only be able to use php to create a file on the client machine if the server process has (a) network access using the file (smb/cifs/ftp/webdav) protocol(s); (b) sufficient credentials on the client machine.

unless you were running in an intranet (and even then ...) this would be a very insecure arrangement.
