I need to create a simple DOS GUI where a splash screen shows whe computer boots and on next screen have a bitmap at top portion of screen and have user input commands ex:'Y' or 'N'

in other words i need a way to "split the screen between video and text modes...

Any suggestions?
thanks.

What compiler are you using? MS, Borland, Watcom and Zortech have different routines.

I think that the pc video adaptors can either be in graphics mode or in character mode in DOS.

Not sure that you can mix & match the two modes at the same time.

The vga card supports a character set while in graphics mode (which is more than the old monochrome Hercules card did) so you can write text to the screen in graphics mode without recourse to generating the characters yourself.

No doubt the BGI in TC will give you other options.
