I've just got a server from WebFusion which has just a C drive with 160 gb space. I've been trying to find a way to create a D drive with most of 160gb as my data drive. I'm running Sql Server applications with data of about 10gb. Can I do this and if so is it worth doing? I can't rebuild the server though if that is what is required.

Thanks v much

mike

You should be able to do this using a tool such as Partition Magic. Normally in this situation we prefer to rebuild the PC and restore the data to ensure that no problems arise.

If this is a critical production server then always ensure you have a good full backup of the system before completing the work, so that if things go wrong you can get back to a working system. I also tend to schedule this kind of work for a Friday evening to give myself the weekend to recover if any problems arise. Less moans from the users that way!

Once you have done this, don't forget you will also have to research how to move SQL from the C: to the new D:
