I used to be able to do this with Adobe but for some reason I am having a hard time finding out how to do this with Corel Photo-Paint 9.

Lets say that I use the free hand pen and I draw a rectangle with angled corners \________/ somthing like this. Then I want to make a border using the drawn shape by increasing or decreasing the size of the border, then erase the area between the main object and the border so that you get the affect of a floating border. Something that is not attached to the main object. Hopefully I have stated my question so that it can be understood. Thanks.

Sounds like what you are trying to do would require the use of Corel Draw, instead of Photopaint. You would create a shape, then you would make a smaller shape that ywould resemble the inerior lines. THis would be the shape that you would "punch out" of the first shape to get your "border". You would then center the smaller inner shape over the bigger rectangle, then use the "Trim" command to "cut out" the center of your border.

If that doesn't work for you, and you want to use Photopaint, you can create a mask (using brush mask or whatever floats your boat)then go to the Mask Menu at the top, and down to "Shape" if I recall. THis should be a flyout menu, and one of the choices should be "Border". It has been a while since using version 9, so if this sin't quite correct, I appologize.

Final choice, is to use the paintbrush mask, and draw a mask border however wide you want it around your object. You control the width by controling the diameter (and shape) of the mask brush.
