New to VI 6.0 with a quesiton.

We currently have a web application that we support and modify via VI 6.0 and Visual Source Safe. I would like to know if VI has the ability to create its own WebSite project, like it was created in VI from the start?

Again, files are located in VSS, and I want to reverse engineer the website on my local box into a single VI project.

Is this possible? If so any help or pointers to tech documents would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

VI requires 2 webs - a central 'Master' web, and a local 'on-your-own-pc' copy.

If the central master web already exists (perhaps via a get-latest from VSS) then follow the ADD NEW Project dialog in VI - when it asks about the 'master' web just manually key in the name of the central web. VI will attach to this, updating it (if required) to include the features that VI expects, and will then create a local copy (on your pc) in the location that you specified at the start.

The master web should be: a virtual directory with front-page-server-extensions.

If the master web does not exist, then simply follow the steps above - and both webs will be created for you. You can then extract the files from VSS into the master web directory. Then you need to re-sync/refresh the web in VI (else the new files will not be listed).

In VI, you will also need to syncronise the web with VSS (ie to associate the VSS path ($root/myweb etc.) to the master web name). The dialog for doing this, under the project menu, is total rubbish - but it eventually works.

Good luck! (Content Management)
