Hi, I have never dealt with exchange before (I'm a database and report guy...) Is there any way to link to exchange 2010 server database files .EDB so I can view data and create reports? Or can you create a flat data export? ie. spreadsheets? I have been able to find very little on the topic and most involved third party software.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

What kind of reports are you trying to create?

Mailbox size, database size, item counts, that sort of thing?

If so then best to investigate powershell and take a look at the Scripting Guys repository on Microsoft.com, a lot of hints and tips on there.

e.g.
get-mailbox -ResultSize Unlimited | get-mailboxstatistics | ft displayname, itemcount, totalitemsize

Powershell will extract the data and you can then dump out to CSV/HTML etc. Not necessarily very pretty but that is where the 3rd party apps like Quest Message Stats come in. They make things nice and pretty for management and allow them to run off their own reports etc.

Thanks for getting me going in the right direction, I think I found some scripts I can use. Much appreciated
