Create OLE DB connection string in Application.cfm

I need to connect to a MSSQL database that uses a SalesLogix front end.

The only way to communicate with the database is through the SalesLogix OLE DB Provider, which is installed on the web server. When trying to create the OLE DB connection in CF Administrator, we discovered that the connection string exceeds tha maximum characters in the Provider feild.

I am thinking it might work if I can create the connection in my application.cfm using the connection string.

Can anybody give me any guidance? I have no idea where to begin. (I am still using CF 5)

Since Macromedia's cfdocs change so much with each CF incarnation.. they could help out a lot but rounding up old docs for all the key versions from at least 3 forward (3, 4, 4.5, 5, MX, 6.1).
