Create FREE table when not Administrator

I have a user experiencing problems with a VFP application on Windows XP Pro. The app was installed by an administrator but is being used by a user who does not have admin privileges.

The app creates a directory on the local machine and a free table within that directory. It appears that the free table cannot be created and updated by the non-admin user unless the directory is marked as shared.

Is there any way to create the directory as shared from within VFP?

Here's a link that may be more useful:
(If you figure out how to make it work in VFP, let us know!!)

An easier way to accomplish what you want is through InstallShield Express. Instead of having your program create the directory that must be shared, have the installation process create the directory.

With ISX 4.x, in the "Files" step, in the "Destination Computer's Folders" tree, you can right-click a folder, Choose "properties", then click "permissions", and then you can add "Generic All" permissions (or more specific ones).
I think this is the best (most "correct" way) answer to your problem

Thanks for that WGCS. I will look into the ISX approach as you suggest.

wgcs,

One thing about wmi, you need to have admin access on the machine you want to run it on in order to run it.
Whether it be your own machine or another on the network.

I think your only choice is to have the administrator make the parent directory needed by the app shareable for that user. Then the subfolders would inherit those rights.
