create dialer and make phone calls through computer using current line

how can i utilize or create a dialer in vb.net? i want to be able to call a number and hear it through the computer headphones and mic to talk.

basically create a phone through the computer.

is that possible? can you already do this through ms office?

what code to use??

Plantronics has a telephone/headset that plugs into the phone jack on a modem(soh1858-12) then use any dialing program to dial the call and release the modem to let the headset take over

You can do this if you have a full-duplex voice capable modem. There is an FAQ in the General Modem Discussion forum on how to figure this out.

I've never trie to do live voice through the modem, but I have used Turbo Power's Async Pro control to send WAV files through the modem. They have some good sample code bundled with the control.

I know that with Microsoft Outlook it will allow you to place calls to numbers in your contacts list. I has a dialer but of course you must have the sound input/output as explained above. Windows has a phone dialer as well in Start, Programs, Accessories, Communications, Phone Dialer.
