Seems like this should be 'do-able' but since I've not used SQL Server before I have no idea how to set it up in order to create a SQL database that is pulling inforomation from an informix database?

It seems like it should be obvious but I'm coming from an ACCESS background where doing an ODBC connection & linking tables are what I'm used to.

What would be the equivelant process in SQL Server to link a new db to tables that reside in another DB?

I just downloaded the 'trial' version & am running it on my local machine to see if I can do what I hope to be able to do prior to actually buying the product.

So yes I'm pretty 'wet' behind the ears & have minimal knowledge of SQL server Admin.

Thanks

Gina

Look in books online at linked servers and distributed queries. If you just want to do a download of information to convert the database one time, consider usig DTS (Data transformation services) to bring over the data. If you want to access the data, create a linked server.

Questions about posting. See faq183-874

Thanks - figured out the 'linked' server part & am reviewing the distributed queries now which bodes a part 2 of the question
Yes my preference is to access the data vs bringing it over so what's the benefit of using the openrowset vs linkserver command options?
