Create a sub domain

I'm doing a bit of study with a couple of spare machines. I'm trying to create a sub domain which appeared to run ok and i now have a test.com domain and a sub.test.com domain, the problem is that i can't see the sub domain listed in active directory on the test.com DC. Am i missing a step here, trusts maybe?

Trusts are automatically established between child/parent when setup. If you right click on Active Directory Users and Computers from with that utility, click Connect to Domain, and type in the name or ip of your child DC will it work?
