Create a search form using xml data

Hi there
I'm new to XML and have been asked to produce a search form from the XML data (ie drop down boxes with relevant info)in XHTML which will drop the info into a database when the user has selected their requirements.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, or offer any tips, it would be greatly appreaciated.

You will need to use XSLT to transform the XML document into XHTML.
Then some kind of server side scripting language to connect to and insert the data from the form into the database table.
