Argh - I'm trying to convert my newsletter to a pdf file to be able to put it on a web page. I use Pagemaker 6.0 with Windows XP. When choosing "Create Adobe PDF" option I get the error message "Creating a PDF file requires a PostScript printer driver. Please install one."

I know enough to create a newsletter but the rest of this is greek to me (must have missed that class.) I've reinstalled the software, thinking that I screwed up somewhere in the installation but still no luck. Reread the manual for the umpteenth time and getting a migraine.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated, as I am at my wits end. Talk SLOW :)

Hi, busgirl,

Firstly, PM6.0 is not supported on WinXP as it's over 10 years old, so there are inherent and possibly insoluble shortcomings.

Having said that, you can easily install a Postscript driver by downloading it from Adobe:
(Choose your language)

You also need to install Acrobat Distiller from the PM6 CD-ROM, but again there are concerns about 10 year old software.

And the Distiller PPD needs to be copied into PM's PPD4 folder, [pmdir]\RSRC\[language]\PPD4
That too can be dowloaded from Adobe at:

I've written a tutorial about installing PM7 on Win2K, which should help but you'll need to map PM7 to PM6 and Win2K to WinXP.

Remember this is somewhat complicated because have an obsolete version of PM, and you going to have to install it manually.

The long term answer is to move onto InDesign.

I'm having similar issues, and have PM6 with WinXP. The issues with pdf'ing are so haphazard. The file will begin distilling, but then in the middle of distilling the pages, it will stop at say 6 of 20 and give me a pdf up to that page. Then the file is corrupted because it removes all the images/objects from the file. So, I tried to isolate by re-inserting objects and pdf'ing each page...Is there any logic to this besides having to re-insert objects or in some cases re-doing the whole file?

I'm using adobe 6.0 pro. thanks.

PM6 with WinXP.
Click here for details Adobe's Support Policy for PageMaker 6.5 and 7.x in Windows XP. Note that PM6 is no longer supported at all as it so old.

Your long term option is to move on to InDeign:

3. You have used Insert Object or Paste Special (e.g. MS WordArt, Adobe Table Editor);
