Please forgive my ignorance, I beg you! I know nothing about AccPac. However I do know Crystal Reports. I had someone contact me regarding modifying Crystal Reports off their AccPac financial software. The client has 3 companies and then a parent company. They want the report modified to report financial data on the 1 overriding parent company - not 3 different versions of financial data for the 3 companies. Now as I said I don't know AccPac. However, I would have thought there was a way to enter a new company, linking the 3 different companies together? Any feedback from you Accpac experts would be much appreciated!

Crystal won't do the job, it's built for one database at a time. You need an add-on product like Accpac Insight, or G/L Consolidations, or F9.

Hi there. Sorry if I didn't convey it properly. Crystal will handle multiple data sources. I'm not asking about the Crystal side of it - I'm more asking about the AccPac side of it - is there no way to create a parent company within AccPac that you can connect the 3 subsidiary companies in AccpPac.

You need an add-on product like Accpac Insight, or G/L Consolidations, or F9.

thanks. any other opinions out there please?

What you are talking about is company consolidations, you need to consolidate 3 companies into 1 parent company.

There are many options:
1. Use software like Accpac Insight or F9 to create a virtual consolidated (parent) company, it's virtual because it does not create a 4th consolidated Accpac company to report from.
2. Use Accpac's GL Consolidations to consolidate the 3 companies into 1 Accpac company, this is a real company within Accpac from which you can do your reporting. GL Consolidations exports the GL transactions from the subsidiary companies and imports them into the consolidated company.
3. Apply your own variations of above options:
a) Write your own program to create a store of consolidated transactions to report from.
b) Write your own consolidation program to produce a 4th consolidated Accpac company to report from.
c) Use a 4th company in Accpac, export the actual transactions or net movement from the subsidiary companies and then import them as a budget in the consolidated company. Your reports will be generated from the budget set, but they contain the actuals.

My personal favoutite is GL Consolidations, mainly because I worked on the original design and development (before Accpac purchased it), but it also provides flexibility when consolidating companies.

Just as a side note, Crystal is very good for general reporting, but so not so hot for financial reporting, the better tool for this is Accpac's Financial Reporter (run in Excel and free with Accpac), or other tools like Accpac Insight or F9 (which you need to purchase separately).

Just my 2c on the topic.

You know Etienne, that is excellent feedback - thank you! Even though - as a Crystal report consultant - I could make money from this - I'm thinking, why not direct the client to use in AccPac the resource he has already paid for, that doesn't even require Crystal. Am I right on this? The options you're suggesting don't require any modifications to Crystal - it's all within the AccPac software they're likely upgrading to?

Not exactly. All the mentioned products are add-on modules. But, they probably cost about 3-4 hours of your billable time, so it's cost effective for them.

I agree, the additional software will cost less than the time to develop the Crystal reports.

Thanks but you didn't really address my questions.

Ettienne - thank you. We were posting at the same time - sorry if there is confusion there(I was responding to tuba). Ettienne you addressed all my questions completely. Thank you so much! You're awesome! Since I don't know AccPac, are you someone I could refer them to for consulting?

Hello Ettienne,
Have F9 problem. Do you know of a good forum for help? Problem is Accpac 5.4 related.

Dankie.

No sorry, I don't do any F9.
The only site I know of is they have a support forum and KB.
You need Pervasive 9.5 if you have Accpac 5.4 and F9, or so I have read on the Accpac forum.
