create a numbered list in a report? 1

I have a report that I simply want to add a numbered list to. For example my report currently looks like this:

Smith, John
Jackson, Roberts
King, Bill

And I want to be able to do the following:

1. Smith, John
2. Jackson, Roberts
3. King, Bill
4. etc etc..

The information is pulled from a query.

Help please!

I have done this on reports by setting an unbound textbox in the detail section =[printcount] and then putting a Running Sum over the group on it.
